What is The Dumbdroid
What is The Dumbdroid?
The Dumbdroid is a Nokia style keypad phone running Android 14! We want to make a phone which is the only phone you need to get you through the day, without trying to distract us from the things we really want to be doing. It has all the essentials for modern life – WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber and Spotify. Whilst getting a £15 Nokia phone from down the road is possible, unfortunately it is simply not feasible to live in this day and age without certain essential applications.

Privacy
Our phone comes with two modes. Normal mode comes with Google Play Services – an essential service which allows many crucial applications to function such as WhatsApp and Uber. This allows users maximum compatible with android applications, and is the mode we recommend for people who just want their phone to work.
We also allow a minimalist mode, where the phone comes without Google Services preinstalled and a restricted app store. This is for users who do not want to give any of their data to google and have a less smartphone tailored experience. There is an optional MicroG open source service that emulates some of the functionality to make more applications compatible – however this will not work with certain applications.
Each mode is entirely legitimate and depends on your use case. In either case, the best we believe for users to enhance their privacy is to spend more time off their devices. Our parental controls application is installed on both, so both modes will work well for cutting down phone usage.
